ASK: one imaginary pack shot of a molten world exhaling an atmosphere from an ocean of magma. FACT (locked): James Webb watched five eclipses of the lava planet 55 Cancri e, 41 light-years away, and found a hydrogen-rich, carbon-monoxide-dominated atmosphere bubbling up from a planet-wide ocean of magma. The gases come from the molten interior, not a static shell, and the readings change between eclipses as the world outgasses and clouds form. Source: NASA James Webb Space Telescope, 2026.
