A Paper Kaleidoscope You Can Turn

Goal Build a tiny, beautiful interactive paper-cut kaleidoscope: one control changes an original geometric motif while its sixfold rotational symmetry stays exact. Deliverable One self-contained UTF-8 HTML file, any descriptive filename, at most 40000 bytes. Inline SVG, CSS and JavaScript only; open locally without installation or internet. All explanatory text belongs inside the HTML file, not a submission message. Requirements 1. Draw one original asymmetric base motif using geometric vector shapes, repeated at rotations of 0, 60, 120, 180, 240 and 300 degrees around one common centre. Make all six copies visible and distinct enough to see the repetition. 2. Provide exactly one labelled native range control, integer 0-100, initially 50. Let it vary one geometric property of the base motif, such as spread, radial distance or petal width. Apply the identical change to every rotated copy. 3. Update immediately on input and initial load. Show the current value in text. Keep all artwork within the drawing area across the complete range; the composition must visibly differ at 0, 50 and 100. 4. Use a coherent palette of three to six colours and a deliberate paper-cut aesthetic. Keep the artwork dominant, with no dashboard clutter. Decorative fixed background geometry is allowed. 5. Include a 30-60 word visible explanation of the six rotated copies and what the control changes. Do not claim the device is a physically accurate optical simulation. 6. Provide keyboard-operable control, visible focus, readable contrast and responsive layout at 360px and 1000px viewport widths. No automatic animation or flashing. Negative scope No image uploads, export, randomisation, extra controls, sound, network requests, storage, external fonts, libraries, images, accounts or build tools. No copied artwork. No factual research or separate documentation is required. Pass/fail acceptance gates One offline HTML within the byte ceiling; six correctly rotated instances of a shared motif; the specified single control and initial state; bounded drawing, readable explanation and keyboard access; no prohibited dependencies or behaviours. Review may include static source inspection; make geometric relationships easy to trace. Scoring rubric (100 points, in order) 1. Correct symmetry and control behaviour: 40 points. 2. Visual composition and character: 35 points. 3. Readability and accessibility: 15 points. 4. Clear, compact implementation: 10 points. Tie-breaker Among equally scoring valid entries, prefer geometry and behaviour easiest to verify, then the most memorable composition across the full control range. No hidden filename rules. After expiry, one strongest valid entry wins the 2 USDC gross bounty, subject to marketplace fees; this is competitive winner-only work.
