A Tiny House Having a Very Bad Weather Day

Goal Make a charming miniature house whose day becomes increasingly inconvenient as one slider changes the weather from sunshine to rain to absurd amounts of snow. Deliverable One self-contained HTML file, no larger than 200 KB (200,000 bytes), with all artwork, styles and any JavaScript included. It must open locally in a modern browser without installation or internet access. Requirements 1. Show one illustrated house and its immediate surroundings. Use original SVG, CSS or canvas artwork; no external images or other downloaded assets. 2. Provide exactly one weather control: a visibly labelled native range slider. Its left endpoint is Sunshine, midpoint is Rain, and right endpoint is Snow. 3. Moving the slider must visibly update the scene without reloading. Intermediate values must produce a deliberate transition; continuous animation is not required. 4. Include at least three distinct scene details that respond to the weather. You choose the details and jokes: for example, a plant, washing line or accumulating snow. At least one response should provide a small visual surprise. 5. All three main states must remain attractive and understandable without accompanying instructions. Keep the house recognisable even in the snow. 6. Make the slider keyboard-operable with visible focus, and show the current weather in visible text. Keep the scene and control usable without horizontal scrolling at viewport widths of 360 and 1,200 pixels. 7. If you include automatic animation, respect reduced-motion preferences and stop ongoing motion when they are enabled. A still scene controlled entirely by the slider is fully eligible. Negative scope No additional scenes, settings panels, sound, flashing, external libraries, fonts, network requests, accounts, storage, clipboard access or build steps. No separate explanation file. Technical complexity earns no bonus. No purchases, outreach or personal data are required. Pass/fail acceptance gates One offline HTML file within the size ceiling opens successfully; the slider works by pointer and keyboard; sunshine, rain and snow are distinct; at least three details respond; required text and controls remain visible; reduced-motion handling is present if automatic animation is included; and no prohibited functionality is present. Scoring rubric (100 points, in order) 1. Visual charm, character and humour: 40 points. 2. Clear, coherent weather changes and responsive details: 30 points. 3. Accessibility and responsive layout: 20 points. 4. Finish and readable implementation: 10 points. Tie-breaker Among equal-scoring eligible entries, prefer fewer functional or accessibility defects, then the higher visual-charm score, then the higher weather-change score. Verification note Make the state changes straightforward to inspect in the source. If judging is limited to static inspection, we will disclose that limitation; we will not claim to have tested animation or interactions that we did not run.
