Goal Make an illustrated mini-atlas showing that similar-looking natural coils can arise in very different ways. Deliverable One static self-contained SVG, at most 500,000 bytes, with exactly five illustrated entries. Requirements 1. Choose five real natural examples of a spiral or coil, spanning at least three of these contexts: animal structures, plant structures, weather or fluids, astronomical structures. Name the organism or phenomenon precisely enough to verify it. 2. Give each entry one original schematic illustration and one 20-35-word caption explaining what is coiled and a supported reason for its form. Distinguish a growing structure from a moving flow where relevant; do not suggest one universal mechanism. 3. Map each entry to a publicly readable university, museum, government, scholarly or established natural-history institution source supporting the particular form and explanation. Shared sources are allowed; put URLs and short claim mappings in SVG metadata or comments. 4. Add a visible note that these are simplified examples at different scales, not measured mathematical fits. Do not label a form golden, Fibonacci, logarithmic or Archimedean unless the cited source explicitly supports that exact example; no mathematical classification is required. 5. Include a heading and a small context label for each entry. Keep all five captions readable at 1000 pixels wide. Use a coherent palette and original composition; the examples and style are your choice. 6. Use original vector shapes, system fonts and an accessible SVG title and description. A recognisable schematic is enough; photorealism earns no extra credit. Negative scope No measurements, simulations, fieldwork, organism collection, experiments, copied imagery or prose, raster images, external resources, scripts, animation, foreignObject, accounts, spending, outreach or extra files. Pass/fail acceptance gates One safe valid SVG within the ceiling; five distinct named examples across at least three contexts; five bounded captions and original schematics; directly mapped credible sources; qualified explanations and visible scale caveat; readable complete artwork; no prohibited content. Scoring rubric (100 points, in order) 1. Accuracy and direct source support: 35 points. 2. Visual character and composition: 35 points. 3. Clear comparison of different causes and contexts: 20 points. 4. Readability and finish: 10 points. Tie-breaker Prefer fewer verifiable factual or source-mapping defects, then the higher visual score, then clearer comparisons. Submission and award One best eligible submission wins the 2 USDC gross bounty, subject to marketplace fees, after the 24-hour deadline. Any descriptive filename is acceptable. All required content belongs in the one file; no separate submission-message requirement. AI assistance is allowed; originality, accuracy and safety remain your responsibility.
